Through no fault of their own these gorgeous dogs have been left on the shelf at Zante Strays. We need your help to find them a loving home

At Zante Strays we rescue hundreds of dogs every year that have been abandoned or are living on the streets. Our aim is to find them loving homes as soon as possible, often in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands. Sadly some dogs are overlooked through no fault of their own and can spend many years in foster care or in our shelter. That's why we've set ourselves a challenge of finding forever homes for some of the dogs who have been with us the longest.

You can read about each of the dogs below and if you are moved by their stories, there are three ways you can help them find the loving home they deserve.

1) Give a dog a home! Email Zante Strays at info.zantestrays@gmail.com with the name of the dog you are interested in and someone will contact you for a chat so you can find out more about them and how the re-homing process works.

2) If you aren't in a position to offer one of these pups a home you can still help by making a donation towards their re-homing costs. It costs £365 to bring a dog to a new home in the UK, Germany or the Netherlands including, vaccinations, paperwork and transport.

3) Share the link to this page with friends and family and ask them to share it too. We know there is a perfect home out there for each of these doggies, but we need your help to find it!

Just look at that smile! This is Ashley, she was dumped in an olive grove with her two pups. She's about three years old with beautiful markings and is good with children and other dogs.

Gentle Rosa came to Zante Strays when her owners had to move away and couldn't take her with them. She is doing well in foster care, but she misses her family and we want to find her another home as soon as possible. She was born in 2011, is good with dogs and cats, house trained and knows her own name.

Marinos was very thin and scared when we found  him and he also had a badly healed fracture on his leg which means he walks with a slight limp.  He is about four years old and a real sweetie who loves cuddles and needs a family of his own.

Poor Hector has been waiting for three years for a home and a family to love him. He was one of a litter found abandoned in an olive grove and was shy at first, but he is now a happy confident boy with a very waggy tail!

Theo was found with his sister Iris who had a badly broken leg and we think that both puppies were thrown from a car. Born around April 2017 Theo is sociable and happy, but quite quiet so needs lots of love and attention to build his confidence.

As you can see from his picture Dumbo has wonderful ears! He was rescued after many years on the streets and we think he is a German Shepherd cross. He has a sweet nature, loves human contact and is good with other dogs and even cats.

This adorable pup is Mirto who  was dumped in the middle of nowhere with her five siblings. She was the smallest of the litter and is now about three years old. She is a gorgeous dog who enjoys cuddles and deserves a forever home of her own.

Naomi was found crying under a car. She has a sweeet nature and loves her foster Mum and the other foster dogs, but she needs a permanent home to call her own.  We think that this black beauty is about two years old.

Adelaide has been with us for over two years. She was found wandering the streets with a deep wound where her collar had been embedded in her neck. she is now fully recovered and doing really well. She is quite a big girl with a lovely nature.

Just look at those eyes! Aristos was one of twelve pups found with his Mum in the mountains. He is a Hellanic Hound mix and has been with Zante Strays for three years. He has a great temperment and is also good with other dogs.

Beautiful Theresa has one of the saddest stories we've come across. She was found in a field with her six dead puppies and just one left alive that she was trying to nurse, which sadly died two days later. Confused and distressed Theresa was also very underweight. After much tlc she is now doing well in foster care. We think she is about five years old and is looking for a family with lots of love to give.

Make a difference

We want to find loving, forever homes for all these pups by Christmas and cover their re-homing costs of £365 each (for transport, vaccinations and paperwork)

How success will be measured

For us success will be seeing all these beautiful dogs happily settled in their new homes. No dog should ever be left on the shelf!

We rehomed a Zante stray 18 months ago, Jamieson (now called Cooper) he was about 2 years old then. He’s the sweetest, funniest most affectionate dog I’ve ever known. I wouldn’t hesitate to rehome another Zante stray and would urge anyone who might be thi

Zante Strays

Charity Reg No: 1166760

Zante Strays is a no kill animal rescue charity which finds great homes for the special Zakynthian stray animals in the UK. We rescue and treat abandoned, sick and injured animals, together with whole litters of puppies and kittens who are commonly dumped in the litter bins of Zante soon after birth. Poisoning of the streets/public and private areas is common in Zante, to kill dogs and cats rather than manageing the population through spaying and neutering. We fundraise to feed these lovely, friendly animals and to give complex and routine veterinary care to treat these vulnerable creatures in foster in Zante, until they are ready to seek their forever homes. Zante Strays commit to keep every stray dog/cat we foster for the rest of its life if it does not find a home or is old, blind or disabled. We educate encouraging neutering of all pet animals and offer half price sterilisation of owned animals to try to hit the problem at source for those animals who just cannot afford it. We have a small group of active volunteers based in Zante who use their own resources without funding from any government sources. This teamed with a small group of volunteers based throughout the UK are responsible for organising foster for strays and the adoption of rehoming animals. This includes arranging appropriate and safe transport to the UK, all veterinary checks, sterilisation, issue of pet passport and microchipping. We are determined to make a difference and as we have no overheads and pay no salaries (all services are given free by volunteers) we are able to ensure every penny raised goes to all of the animals in our care
