With our resources already stretched, we are raising money to care for six beautiful Jersey calves saved from slaughter.

At the Farm Animal Sanctuary we provide a safe and loving home to more than 500 animals rescued from the farming industry. These six beautiful Jersey Calves were allowed just 72 hours with their mother before being taken away. If a kind farmer hadn't bought them for £5 (the equivalent of ten pints of milk) and brought them to us they would have been shot.

This is the fate of many thousands of male dairy calves that cannot be reared profitably for meat. Cows are doting mothers and when their young are taken away they often cry for days and the calves are traumatised by being separated from their mother at such a young age.

Fortunately these six little calves are now safe, as you can see from the picture below with our founder Jan.  They will stay with us for the rest of their natural lives, which could be as much as twenty years, and during that time will receive all the love, care and stimulation they need to thrive.

This is a big financial commitment for a small charity like ours, which is why we urgently need your help to cover the cost of food and bedding for these new arrivals.

We appreciate every donation, however small, and please share the link to our campaign page too - we need to reach as many people as possible to achieve our target.

Thank you so much for caring x

Make a difference

We want to raise £3000 to cover the cost of food and bedding for these little boys in their first year but, because we are making a commitment look after them for the rest of their lives, it would be amazing if, with your help, we could raise even more. A bag of milk costs £40 and will last for 4-5 days. Barley and pellets cost £6 a week and bedding straw costs about £40 a week.

How success will be measured

Every penny will go towards caring for these little calves. Raising this money will also give us the financial security to rescue more farm animals in need.

The Farm Animal Sanctuary

Charity Reg No: 702287

We provide a safe haven for over 530 animals and birds rescued from abuse, neglect, slaughter and abandonment. Farm animals are not endangered, exotic or wild. Raised to provide, meat, milk, eggs and other by products such as wool and leather, they are often treated as commodities rather than living beings with feelings and emotions. They suffer distress when their young are taken away from them, they are kept in cramped conditions with little stimulation and they can be transported for hundreds of miles, crammed into lorries, stressed and frightened, to be slaughtered. There are few places where farm animals can find sanctuary and live out their lives in peace. At the Farm Animal Sanctuary we watch these animals as they become relaxed and confident. We see their characters develop. We admire their intelligence and the way they embrace their peaceful surroundings. We watch them begin to play and finally become content. They form close companionships and soon recognise the people who care for them and look after them. They ask for very little. For us it’s a pleasure and a privilege to be part of their daily lives. This is why we are here.
